Tips for Losing Weight After Pregnancy

After giving birth many women are anxious to get back in shape. There's no magical way to take off baby weight, but with healthy-eating habits and regular exercise, you can get your pre-pregnancy body back. Here are some advice for losing weight in a healhy way.

Breastfeed
Whether breastfeeding can actually help you lose weight is still up in the air -- some studies find that breastfeeding exclusively can help you return to your pre-baby weight faster, while others find no difference in weight loss between women who breastfeed and those who bottle feed.
What is for sure is that breastfeeding is good for your baby, boosting immunity and providing a number of other important health benefits. And nursing exclusively lets you add about an extra 300 calories a day to your diet (you can add slightly more calories if you have a really big eater or twins). Just make sure that if you do breastfeed, you don't use it as an excuse to eat whatever you want.

Eat healthy
Try to include plenty of fruit and vegetables in your meals. Drink water throughout the day to stay well hydrated and choose the right snacks. As well helping you lose weight at a healthy pace, it will also make sure you have the energy to adjust to life with your newborn.

Drink up
Drinking plenty of water throughout the day prevents you from getting dehydrated. It also fills you up so that you don't eat as much, and some research has found that it may speed up your metabolism.
Whether you need the often-recommended eight glasses a day isn't certain, so Johnson recommends using the color of your urine and how often you need to go to the bathroom as guides. If you're drinking enough fluids, your urine should be relatively clear, and you should be going to the bathroom about every three to four hours.

Get some sleep
It may seem impossible to get a full eight hours of sleep when you have a baby summoning you like clockwork throughout the night, but being sleep deprived could make it harder for you to shed the baby weight. In one study, new moms who slept five hours or less a night were more likely to hold onto their extra pregnancy weight than women who slept seven hours. When you're tired, your body releases cortisol and other stress hormones that can promote weight gain. "Also when you're exhausted, you don't feel like taking good care of yourself," Johnson says. "You're less likely to choose healthy food. You're more likely to grab something through a drive-through. You're also less likely to get physical activity."
Your friends or family members may have told you to "sleep when your baby sleeps," and that's good advice. Catch as many naps as you can during the day and go to bed early -- at least until your baby starts sleeping through the night.

Drop a Dress size by Christmas and New Year


Christmas is just around the corner and with it comes a whole load of parties and nights out – complete with the panic of what to wear!
And if the thought of slipping into that slinky party frock you’ve got your eye on is enough to make you rip up any invites, fear not.

There’s still time to drop a dress size before the festivities get under way, so you can look like your favourite star and feel amazing in your dress.

More than likely you would feel all of those emotions but as with everything, you have to actually get started to feel them and  making the decision to get started can be the hardest bit.  Putting it off for as long as you can … does that sound familiar?  However the dreadful truth is that if you don’t start you’ll never achieve what you desire.  There is a great quote from Jim Rohn “For Things To Change YOU Have To Change!” and isn’t he spot on with that?

According to the new Atkins research, which surveyed 1,007 women across the UK, 6 out of 10 females own a Little Black Dress and 1/3 insist it is their favourite item of clothing.

Linda O'Byrne, Atkins chief nutritionist, added: “Our research shows that the Little Black Dress is as much a part of the party season as mistletoe and wine. We urge women to take a sensible approach to dieting in the run-up to Christmas because it will enable them not only to look great on their big night out but to feel great too. Slimmers must focus on eating and drinking healthily by cutting down on sugar and refined carb intake and getting some exercise. This, along with some patience, is the key to weight loss."

Cutting calories too low will increase cravings, as will eating a “low fat” as good fats are needed for satiety. Look to lean protein, vegetables, good fats and low sugar snacks; something that can be sustained and become part of a lifestyle and routine.” 
Therefore, when you decide that you want to look great on the Christmas and New Year night, think what you eat every day, how healthy is that food and if you are getting the necessary number of calories per day!
